A Family’s Culinary Journey
Some recipes travel across continents. Ours traveled from the foothills of the Himalayas, through the kitchens of royalty, and finally to the sunlit coast of Carvoeiro.
Chef Shreeram Maharjan’s journey began at just 18 years old, in the prestigious 5-star Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal. His extraordinary talent soon caught the attention of diplomats and ambassadors — and eventually, the Saudi Royal Family themselves. For years, he crafted bespoke dining experiences for the world’s most discerning palates.
But his greatest passion? Creating something of his own.
In 2009, Chef Shreeram opened Ayo Gurkhali in Wilmslow, Cheshire — a warm, family-run restaurant that quickly became a local institution. Alongside his son Robin, he built more than a kitchen; he built a reputation.
Over 17 years, he has mentored and helped dozens of Nepali and Indian chefs open their own restaurants across the UK and Portugal. Yet his heart always remained at the stove.
In 2016, seeking sunnier horizons, the Maharjan family brought their craft to Portugal, first in Armação de Pêra. By 2018, they found their permanent home in Carvoeiro — where the warmth of Nepalese hospitality meets the freshest Algarve ingredients.
Every dish on your table carries three generations of tradition, 40+ years of mastery, and one family’s unwavering love for authentic food.
This isn’t just a meal. It’s our story, served to you.
